Healthcare and the 2020 Election

Impact Healthcare Sharing option

Election day is quickly approaching, and one hot topic is and has been healthcare. According to a Kaiser Family Foundation poll, 26% of registered voters said health care is the most crucial issue in determining their vote for president.

It can be confusing and difficult to understand the debates, so we have taken information posted on the top candidate’s sites and provided that below for you to review.

President Donald Trump's campaign website says, "President Trump has worked to improve access to affordable quality health care. As part of the landmark Tax Cuts and Jobs Act, President Trump repealed the individual mandate, which forced people to buy expensive insurance and taxed those who couldn’t afford it. President Trump signed a six-year extension of CHIP to fund healthcare for 9 million. President Trump has mobilized his entire administration to address drug addiction and opioid abuse by declaring the opioid crisis a nationwide public health emergency."

Joseph Biden proposes protecting and building on the Affordable Care Act instead of a Medicare for All plan.

Mr. Biden's campaign website says about the Affordable Care Act: "Because of Obamacare, over 100 million people no longer have to worry that an insurance company will deny coverage or charge higher premiums just because they have a pre-existing condition – whether cancer or diabetes or heart disease or a mental health challenge. Insurance companies can no longer set annual or lifetime limits on coverage. Roughly 20 million additional Americans obtained the peace of mind that comes with health insurance. Young people who are in transition from school to a job have the option to stay covered by their parents’ plans until age 26. But, every day over the past ten years, the Affordable Care Act has been under relentless attack. As president, Biden will protect the Affordable Care Act from these continued attacks. He opposes every effort to get rid of this historic law – including efforts by Republicans, and efforts by Democrats. Instead of starting from scratch and getting rid of private insurance, he has a plan to build on the Affordable Care Act by giving Americans more choice, reducing health care costs, and making our health care system less complex to navigate." Joe Biden also wrote in a Medium post that he would lower the Medicare eligibility age to 60.

Tips for safer voting at the polls:

  • If you are not feeling well, stay home.

  • Avoid lines and delays by preparing ahead of time. If possible, fill out forms in advance.

  • Take a black pen, yet we can’t guarantee it will be allowed at all polling locations.

  • Before you leave the house, check that you have all of the documentation you need.

  • Wear a mask.

  • Remember the CDC’s social-distancing guidelines. Maintain a distance of six feet from others.

  • Use hand sanitizer before and after, and wash hands as soon as possible.

Impact Healthcare Sharing option

Having the freedom to choose the healthcare option that fits your needs best is essential. It’s also true that healthcare sharing takes a shift in mindset. You no longer send payments to some big corporation, instead you help another family who needs you. Your money makes an impact on others’ lives.

So what exactly is healthcare sharing?

Healthcare sharing is a fast-growing non-insurance solution to the rising cost of healthcare. It's a modern not-for-profit approach of the "love thy neighbor" ethic practiced by communities of faith for thousands of years. Healthcare sharing is a community of families, individuals, and small businesses that leverage technology to share and pay one another's medical bills. It embraces the digital age and the reality that technological advances disrupt institutions of old.

Yesteryear models for paying for health care haven't adapted and are no longer an affordable way for families to finance and reserve funds for health care. We're seeing the old-guard institutions stagnate, raise insurance premiums, and fail to innovate. By leaving the old behind, Impact Health Sharing is providing a new and affordable way for families and communities to access quality health care.
